Avi's Wont Delete
When you select a .avi or .mpeg file
in Explorer, it will load the file in memory to present you with a
thumbnail/preview when needed. If the file happens to be big, it
will take a long time and a lot of resources. You won't be able to
delete/move/rename the file during this activity either.
You can disable the .avi file handler
in registry, but beware - you'll also lose the ability to see clip
properties in the properties window.
Here's how you do it:
1. Open up regedit
2. Goto HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shel lex\PropertyHandler
3. Delete the "Default" value which should be
"{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489- 5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32" |

Bios
To flash your Bios (for all windows OS) you need 3 things, 1:~ A
Windows ME start up floppy (get 1
here ) 2:~ A clean formatted floppy 3:~ Your motherboards latest
Bios version (when your PC starts up your bios version flashes up in
the bottom left corner write this down before you go looking at the
manufacturers site there will be loads of different ones) and the
program Awdflash. its usually in with the zip with the Bios, mine
came as kt7a9.exe but when clicked on it it just unpacked 4 files
the awdflash and the .bin are all you need to do it this way
01:~ Simply copy and paste the Awdflash.exe program and your Bios
(mine was called kt7a9.bin) to the clean floppy
02:~ Put your Windows Me start up floppy in and restart your PC
(when it asks choose without CD support) Then when its loaded and
your at the flashing DOS prompt A:
03:~ Replace the Start up floppy with the Bios floppy then at the
flashing DOS prompt A: type the following:~ A:awdflash this will
open the flash program in the window where it says file to process
type your bios name mine would be kt7a9.bin, It then asks you to
save the currant bios say yes and call it "old" (it will write it to
the floppy) then it asks you to proceed you say yes and away it
goes. When finished and back at Dos prompt A: press Crtl+Alt+Delete
twice to restart your PC
04:~ If it fails to write computer will just reboot with old bios,
If its the wrong bios or makes things worse just repeat the
procedure but this time type in "old" to restore the backed up
copy.. "Voila" ...Easy as a manual driver installation and a very
important step towards being ....LEET.... :O) |

IRQ'S
98-ME Only
The main problem that occurs with shop bought PC's (98-ME only) is
the cards on the same IRQ, You need to open System information
(msinfo32.exe)and find out if there's any conflicts, Basically your
Video card, Soundcard, Modem/Network card and TV card shouldn't
share Here's what mine looked like in 98- ME. In XP this You have to
change settings in Bios "Before u do clean install" to allow Bios to
control ACPI or XP just lumps all your cards on same IRQ Microsoft
say that it's OK but my bloody TV card begs to differ!! This is Not

Reformatting your hard drive
Make sure you've backed up everything you wanna keep to another
drive or burned to a CD, You will also need drivers for your
Graphics, Sound, Modem, Printer, Scanner, etc. This is not for
beginners its tricky I was walked through this 2-3 times before I
got the hang of it
If you have a bootable XP just change your boot order in Bios to
boot from CD 1st then put the XP disc in drive and restart (press
any key to boot from CD when asked) then follow the instructions for
new install (reformat) or Upgrade to keep your programs and just
update the OS, if your not bootable and are using start floppys
here's how reformat manually
01:~ You need a start up disc/s (xp has 6) go to
Bootdisk.com and get the
correct start up floppys for your OS (98, me xp)
02:~ Make sure you write down the path to "setup.exe" on your
windows CD if its a bought copy then its just D:/setup if its pirate
who knows might be in a folder so get the exact path and write it
down (if you only have a master CD from your PC manufacturer this
wont work its there own oem version you need a proper copy bought or
pirate)
03:~ Restart computer with Start up Floppy and Windows CD in drives
it will then take you to DOS you will be given 4 choices 1-Help
2-Start with CD support 3-Start without CD support 4-Minimal boot,
choose #2.
04:~ This will bring you to a DOS prompt A:
05:~ After the DOS prompt A: type in FORMAT C: Then press return key
(enter) it will then tell you its about to delete the contents of
your hard drive and ask you to proceed (this is the last moment no
going back once you proceed- is everything backed up? e-mail
addresses, favorites, isp settings, documents! triple check)
06:~ OK type in the Y to proceed (or N to cancel) and away it goes.
07:~ When its complete it will return to dos prompt A: You now need
to restart computer - you should still have CD and Floppy in drives
don't take them out yet (hold down Ctrl+Alt and press Delete
twice... this is a hotkey command it will restart computer)
08:~ When computer restarts were back to the four choices this time
choose #2- Start with CD support
09:~ This brings you to a DOS prompt A: just above this its tells
you what it has called your CD drive (usually not D it temporarily
names the hard drive D) mines always "Your CD is E" (if you have 2
CD drives it will state both maybe "CD 01 is E" "CD 02 is F") this
is important you may have to try both to find the windows CD
10:~ So at the DOS prompt A: I would type E:SETUP Then press return
key (enter) (if yours is pirate this might differ this is where you
copy the path you found to your setup.exe earlier) or if 2 CD drives
might be F:SETUP or G:SETUP depends how many drives you have (hard
and CD)
11:~ If you've done it right it will now scan disc (If it finds
errors let it fix em) then start installing Voila you've reformatted
for the first time feels good eh! no more shitty 2gb oem installs
this is 250mb all in ( NICE )
12:~ You now have to install all your device drivers (windows may
have the drivers for some I'd be amazed if it has them all)
13:~ Then re-install your software and finally Scan disc (standard
-automatically fix errors) then Disc Defragmenter (settings
re-arrange program files to start faster) and your done. |

Startup Manager
98-ME Only
01:~ After re-booting hold down Ctrl +Alt and press Del once (twice
will restart pc don't panic if this happens its normal its a hotkey
restart for when pc crashes) This will bring up the widow telling
you what windows has loaded and is running this is what mine looks
like:

02:~ Any thing other than Explorer and Systray is not needed,
Download this tiny program
Start-manager (72kb) here's the blurb:~
"Windows runs startup programs each time it launches from more than
a dozen location. This application consolidates all these locations
into one simple interface, giving users the ability to enable,
disable, add and delete applications to be run at Windows startup.
The application is a small executable that runs alone without an
installer. When running, it adds an icon to the taskbar. To exit the
program, you must select exit from the taskbar's popup menu.

03:~So leave these 2 items alone (there may be others you want left
IE: any specialist mouse drivers or Video card tweaks or firewalls)
highlight any others and disable them (delete only if you don't want
the item to ever load again This is Not For Beginners) then close
program. After playing open program highlight the disabled and
enable voila simple no! |

Files Wont Delete
Ever try to delete a file or folder and it just will not delete,
Whenever you try you get a Windows message
Cannot delete XXXXXXXXXX: Access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file
is not currently in use.
Cannot delete XXXXXXXXXX: It is being used by another person or
program.
Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.
And here is the typical DOS command line message:
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by
another process.
Ok the way I use is to shut down Windows Explorer in task manager
and use a dos command here's how
Explorer is the Windows graphical user interface. If you shut it
down, you will lose things such as your Start menu, your taskbar,
etc. Shutting it down will not damage your system, as explorere.exe
can be thought of as just another program that is running.
Now, use Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete)to shut down "explorer.exe".
Don't worry, Windows will not crash. You will be limited in what you
can do for the time being, but Windows Task Manager can bring
Explorer back up.
Now, after you have shut down "explorer.exe", go to "File" and "New
Task (Run...)" in Windows Task Manager. Now, type in "cmd" and press
enter.
Now you are in a DOS Prompt console program. From here, you can
delete files without using Windows Explorer and other programs that
require explorer.exe to be running. If you remember, it was probably
explorer.exe that is "using" the file you want to delete, and thus
blocking you from doing so... this solution allows you to shut down
Explorer, and thus remove the "in use" property of the file,
allowing you to delete it.
To navigate around your computer in DOS (Windows Task Manager,
"File", "New Task (Run...)", type "cmd", and press enter), use the
following commands (without the quotes):
"cd \" ...................... go to drive root
"cd directory_name_here" ...................... go to specified
directory
"cd .." ...................... go 'back' or 'out of' a directory,
".." means previous directory
"cd drive_letter_here" ...................... go to specified drive
To delete the files, use the following commands (without the
quotes):
"del file_name_here" ...................... deletes specified file
"del *.*" ...................... deletes all files in current
directory
To delete directories (or folders), use the following commands
(without the quotes):
"rd directory_name_here" ...................... removes (or deletes)
specified directory, only if directory is empty (contains no files)
Once you have removed the files and folders, go back to Windows Task
Manager and run "explorer.exe" to bring back Explorer. Go to "File"
and "New Task (Run...)" in Windows Task Manager and type in "explorer.exe"
It's that easy! |

Winrar - archive/burning
01;~ So you have a folder full of files titled 001 -
029 and no clue what to do?, First make sure they all match size and
description from where you got them (no use going any further if
there corrupted) Open Winrar, browse to the folder then double click
the first file 001 it will open another window containing a .bin
file and a .cue file, Now make a new folder on desktop then
highlight both files in Winrar and extract to the new folder, Ok
close Winrar you now have your CD image (if repeating for others
make sure u point Winrar in right place it goes to last place auto
can be confusing with 2 lots of same looking files)
02:~ BIN/CUE image format is quite common on the Internet. It might
seem that finding an appropriate software for burning these images
is quite hard. Luckily, it's not. In addition to Golden Hawk CDR
Win, the original software for BIN/CUE format, you can also use Nero
Burning Rom to burn the images. Please make sure that you have the
latest version of Nero (at least 5.5.8.2) before proceeding.
03:~ Before you burn there could be a crack to do open the crack
program i.e. Pop o matic.exe then surf to the .bin to be cracked and
the patch i.e patch.ppf and away u go (usually just CD1) but read
what the .nfo file says (to open a .nfo open a blank page in notepad
and drag the .nfo on to it)
04:~ Next load Nero Burning Rom and choose File, Burn Image.... to
load the CUE-sheet in Nero Choose the Files of Type: dropdown menu
and select All Files *.*. Next just locate the .CUE file, select it
and click Open. Make sure you select the .CUE -file, not the .BIN
-file.
05:~ Burn the image all you have to do then is choose the writing
speed, select the Disc-At-Once Write Method, and click Write. That's
it! After a couple of minutes you'll have a CD with the BIN/CUE
Image written on it.
06:~ After burning and installing but before launching any game look
on your new burned CD1 for a folder called Crack if it s there, In
it a file called something like Rukshuk.exe copy that and paste it
over one you will find in main game folder.
07:~ If your having trouble burning try it without the ppf crack
(its a burner crack) still having trouble use Iso Buster to install
the game from the .Iso
Winrar multiple archives
01;~ You can right click on the file you wish to build an archive
from and do it that way, but I'll walk your through WinRar. Start by
opening WinRar and browsing to the file you wish to work with.

02;~Single click on the file to select it and then click the "Add"
button. The next window looks intimidating, but it's not that bad.

03;~ Starting from the top, use the text box to name your archive
and browse to where you want to save it to if different than where
the original file is at. WinRar defaults to a .rar extension but you
can manually change it to .001. For really large archives with a lot
of volumes I prefer the .001 extension, it's much neater in my
opinion when you don't have to deal with WinRar switching to .s00.
04;~ Next is the choice of RAR or ZIP formats, choose RAR.
We're creating a new archive so Add and replace files should be
showing in the Update Mode window.
05;~ Choose Best under Compression method for maximum compression.
06;~ Under Archiving Options:
Delete files after archiving. I prefer to manually delete after
checking to make sure my archive actually works, so i wouldn't
recommend checking this box.
Checking the Create SFX archive will build an archive with an .exe
file, allowing the archive to extract itself without the use of
WinRar but also increasing the total archive size.
Create solid archive should be checked when adding a large number of
files to an archive, but really isn't an issue in this single file
example. When you have a lot of small files this option allows
WinRar to treat them as one continuous stream of data, greatly
increasing it's ability to compress them.
Put authenticity verification. Adds a CRC check to the volumes,
recommended for large archives with a lot of volumes but slows
compression time.
Use multimedia compression. Primarily used for raw digital audio
data such as WAV files, not recommended for any other use.
Put recovery record. Recommended for large archives. Increases the
size of the archive and compression time but greatly increases the
chances that a useable archive will be downloaded. Makes it possible
to recover from a CRC error and even physical damage to a disk if
stored on multiple floppies.
07;~ Dictionary size. The larger the dictionary size the better the
compression. I usually stick with 1024 as my setting. This setting
slows down the compression and requires more memory while
compressing, but effects neither during decompression
08;~ Volume size, bytes. The example size in picture is for
splitting onto floppys Enter here the size (in bytes ) the size you
want each piece of the archive to be
09;~ Backup options. Used only for backup purposes and writing to
removeable disks.
Getting back to the example, my options look like this....

10;~ I've chosen Create solid archive even though I'm only archiving
a single file, it doesn't hurt and could help with compression. I've
also chosen 1,457,500 bytes as the volume size, since the original
file is only 10 meg, my personal choice. You can choose whatever.
11;~ The archive is ready to create now, so click on the Ok button.

WinZip
Help
01:~ Double click the zip you want to open this screen will open

02:~ Highlight just the .crz file any thing else is not needed and
press extract it will bring up this window

03:~ Browse to your backup / burning folder (not links courses
folder - never ever unzip anything to a program folder it'll over
right something with same name and u don't want that to happen
believe me) and press extract - Voila!
WinZip Error Recover

If you get this error message you might be able to recover the
important information, Here is the recommended procedure.
01:~ Start WinZip, switch to the Classic interface, and open the
damaged Zip file.
02.:~ Select Extract from WinZip's Actions menu, or click the
Extract button on the WinZip toolbar.
03.:~ In the Extract dialog, check the All Files option button and
select the folder into which you want to extract files then click
ok.
04:~ WinZip will extract any undamaged files to the selected folder;
for any damaged files, WinZip will display a bad CRC error message.
05:~ For each such file, before clicking ok in the error message
window, use Windows Explorer to open the folder and look for the
file some portion of it will probably already have been extracted.
06:~ Copy the partial file to another folder and then click ok in
the WinZip error message window. This will erase the partially
extracted file from the extract folder, leaving intact the copy of
the file you made in the other folder.
Whether or not a damaged file partially recovered using this
procedure will be useful depends on the nature of the file, what
kind of damage there is, how much of the file was recovered
successfully and what kind of program use's the file. In some cases
a partial file is of no use at all in some cases loading a partial
file into your application program and re-saving it will completely
restore the data. In other (perhaps most) cases the result will lie
somewhere between these two extremes--some of the data will be
recovered and some will be lost, out of the 3 times I have done this
2 courses were recoverable. |

Here mainly because his site was down
for a while and I had no referral data and found tweaking PC's
